Erdogan Re-Elected President of Turkey

Turkey's long-standing leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan has won a new five-year term after securing outright victory in the first round of a presidential poll.

Erdogan got nearly 53% with almost all votes counted. His closest rival Muharrem Ince was on 31%.

Presidents, leaders, and people worldwide have congratulated the controversial leader, who has led a purge inside Turkey targeted military leaders and academics. Despite this, it is clear that Erdogan's brand of Islamic nationalism remains fertile and powerful inside the country.
