ALBAWABA - Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant's rising tensions have raised questions about their political relationship. Their relationship may be affected by the public debate.

Al Jazeera reports that Gallant's statements enraged Netanyahu. Gallant remarked, “Israel is responsible for the delay in finalizing the prisoner deal, and the talk of an absolute victory is sheer nonsense.”

Gallant was accused by Netanyahu's staff of pushing an anti-Israel narrative that hampers prisoner release negotiations. According to Al Jazeera, Netanyahu's orders apply to Gallant.

Al Jazeera said that Gallant's words were leaked to the public during a closed-door Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee meeting.

Gallant's words convinced Hamas that Netanyahu is fooling the international world and prisoner families, despite Hamas's flexibility. Hamas called Netanyahu's policy restrictive and said his triumph is unlikely.

Netanyahu and Gallant's growing feud has sparked mixed social media reactions. Al Jazeera's August 13, 2024 "Shabakat" show garnered internet comments.

“Gallant leaking the truth doesn’t indicate a newfound conscience but rather suggests he was instructed to release these leaks against Netanyahu,” said Ahmed Ismail.

Sahar Al-Ayoun stated, “Gallant’s statements are shocking; the failure to prepare for a potential war in Lebanon is Netanyahu’s fault, not the resistance’s.”

Ahmed believes that “the region is heading towards a broader conflict, and the only solution is for Gallant to overthrow Netanyahu; otherwise, Netanyahu will lead the country into a regional war sooner or later.”

According to Channel 12, Netanyahu is not considering firing Gallant despite their continuous dispute. Netanyahu is unconcerned by the criticism and knows Gallant cannot be removed during the conflict, Al Jazeera said.

Gallant subsequently said, “One of the key weaknesses exposed during the war is the ongoing leaks from sensitive and confidential meetings. I will battle until Hamas is overthrown and the captives are rescued, according to Al Jazeera.
