ALBAWABA - Amin Abdullah, a father of eight and a security guard at San Diego's Islamic Center, was dubbed a hero for his actions during the deadly shooting that killed three Muslim victims, including himself.
According to circulating reports, the suspects were identified as 17-year-old Cain Clark and 18-year-old Caleb Vasquez. Both suspects were later found dead from self-inflicted gunshot wounds in a car a few blocks away from the Islamic Center.
Police Chief Scott Wahl said that Amin Abdullah quickly took action and protected people inside the center. Wahl further outlined, "We do believe the security guard was able to help at least minimize the situation to the front area of the mosque."
He added, "At this point, I think it's fair to say his actions were heroic," and that "Undoubtedly, he saved lives today."
Who was Amin Abdullah? Hero guard dies during San Diego mosque shooting
Many authorities condemned the shooting in question, including Governor Gavin Newsom, who took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, "Hate has no place in California. To the San Diego Muslim community: we stand with you."
Congresswoman Sara Jacobs also wrote, "To the Muslim community in San Diego and across the country: know that you’re not alone. We have your back and we’ll get through this together."
On the contrary, American far-right political activist Laura Loomer took to the same social media platform to justify the tragic attack, further describing the people inside the Islamic Center of San Diego as "terrorists" who want everyone killed. Loomer added in another post that she's not advocating for violence. However, she claimed that the mosque inside the center is evil and should be raided by ICE and the FBI.
In response, British-American journalist Mehdi Hassan said, "Loomer is justifying an attack on a mosque. Just when you thought she couldn’t get any more evil or deranged."
