ALBAWABA - In a new encounter with news outlet Fox News, US President Donald Trump expressed his interest in sending American criminals who might face time in federal prison to  El Salvador's notorious jail, CECOT.

The Fox News journalist informed Trump about the President of El Salvador's willingness to receive American citizens serving time in federal prison to minimize its population.  The US President replied, "Well, I love that. If we could take some of our 20-time-wise guys that push people into subways and that hit people over the back of the head and that purposely run people over in cars."

He added, "If he would take them, I would be honored to give them…If they can house these horrible criminals for a lot less money than it costs us. I’m all for it. I would only do according to the law."

Trump's words sparked widespread debate on social media, with several users commending the president, while others weren't so keen about sending US criminals to "El Salvador's concentration camp-like and torture prison" due to legal and political issues.

A social media user on Musk's X (formerly known as Twitter) wrote, "Because Trump is a monster? I don't really have another explanation here. He is shipping large numbers of people accused of no crime other than an immigration-status violation to a Salvadorean torture prison. It's Hague-level sh*t."

Another added, "HE WANTS TO SEND AMERICAN CITIZENS TO A FOREIGN GULAG."

El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele expressed his interest in receiving violent US criminals and sending them to the country's CECOT prison for a fee during a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in February 2025.

During the discussion, Marco Rubio called the possible agreement an "unprecedented migratory agreement."
