ALBAWABA - Turkish football team Galatasaray has recently accused renowned football manager José Mourinho of making "racist statements" towards Turkish people amid the team's match against Fenerbahçe SK which ended in a 0-0 draw.
It's worth noting that both clubs play in Turkey's Süper Lig.
Turkey's Galatasaray accuses José Mourinho of racism
Mourinho said that Galatasaray's bench has been "jumping like monkeys" sparking outrage. According to Sky News Sports, the Turkish football team is looking to take official action against Mourinho. Galatasaray took to its official X account (formerly known as Twitter) and wrote:
"Since the commencement of his managerial duties in Türkiye, Fenerbahçe manager Jose Mourinho has persistently issued derogatory statements directed towards the Turkish people. Today, his discourse has escalated beyond merely immoral comments into unequivocally inhumane rhetoric."
The statement adds that Galatasaray will "submit official complaints to UEFA and FIFA."
Right after the statement was shared on social media, football fans flooded every comment section with the hashtag "#NoToRacism" to express their support for Galatasaray, which initiated the movement.
Mourinho is no stranger to making derogatory comments about Turkish people in the football world. The Former Manchester United and Chelsea manager recently said, "I went to the referees’ dressing room after the game. Of course, the fourth official was there, a Turkish referee."
