ALBAWABA - A Syrian father took the internet by storm after reportedly naming his newborn baby "Trump," after the current US President, sparking debate and mixed reactions on social media.

According to several photos flooding social media, the father was identified as Ahmed Al-Sattouf, who was criticized heavily by Syrians and internet users. Several social media users took to platforms like Facebook and X (formerly known as Twitter) in concern for the baby's future.

A Facebook user wrote under a post featuring the story, "Your son is going to leave you when he grows up."

Another wrote, "This guy is officially crazy... What is he thinking?" To which someone replied, "He got too excited."

Social media users are speculating that the father named his new son after Trump ahead of the US's agreement with Saudi Arabia to lift its sanctions on Syria during the American President's recent discussions with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Donald Trump travelled across the Middle East, visiting countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates to discuss economic and political growth with the region's leaders, including Mohammed Bin Salman, Sheikh Mohammed bin Thani, Ahmed Al-Shara, and Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The Trump-al-Sharaa meeting came one day after the US President announced lifting sanctions on Syria after they were imposed following the civil war that erupted against Bashar Assad and his government, a  White House official said.
