ALBAWABA - A performer during Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl halftime show took the internet by storm after raising a combination of a Sudanese-Palestinian flag to shed light on the Israeli aggression on Palestine and the ongoing crisis in Sudan.
Additionally, the flag had both Gaza and Sudan written on it in black to show solidarity about the matter in question. According to AP, the man was detained on the football field and could face charges due to his actions. The NFL confirmed that the man was part of the 400-member cast working on the field that day.
Super Bowl performer arrested amid Sudanese-Palestinian flag raise
Local police issued a statement that read, "Law enforcement is working to determine applicable charges in this incident." The NFL stated that it was unaware that the person hid the Sudanese-Palestinian flag in his pockets before climbing up a truck that was a prop during Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl halftime show and revealing it. The football organization also added that nobody knew about the performer's intentions.
A social media user on Musk's X (formerly known as Twitter) wrote, "FREE PALESTINE FREE SUDAN! FREE HUMANITY!" Another added, "A hero."
While the performer received many compliments from pro-Palestine and Sudan activists, some weren't so keen about his move due to bringing politics into the Super Bowl.
An X user added, "The actions of the protester at the Super Bowl were inappropriate and disrespectful. Raising the flags of Palestine and Sudan during a global event like the Super Bowl is not the right platform to address political issues."
