ALBAWABA - A huge green box inside the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus sparked curiosity among Syrians.

The green box has the slogan of Saudi Arabia, and it is placed under heavy guard, with no official information provided about its contents, pending its official unveiling.

According to sources, Saudi Arabia's gift to Syria will be locked until its reveal date, which is on Liberation Day, December 8th, as confirmed by Saudi and Syrian media.

However, despite that the reveal day is in only 4 days; however, speculation online intensified regarding the Saudi gift and what is inside the green box.

The opinions split on social media, with some saying it could be hiding unique copies of the holy Quran from the King Fahd Complex, others said it could be a complete curtain for the Kaaba, and some estimated that it might be an artifact with Umayyad symbolism which was in Saudi Arabia.

Syrian state television revealed that the gift is a modern piece of the Kaaba's covering, no more than two or three years old, and not a historical covering dating back to the Umayyad era, as had been circulating on social media.

Syrian television confirmed that the piece will be displayed later inside the Umayyad Mosque in a designated area for visitors, as an official gift from King Salman bin Abdulaziz.

It is worth noting that the unveiling day is considered a major day in Syria as it marks the first anniversary of the collapse of the Assad regime, led by Bashar Assad, in the country.
