ALBAWABA - Fast food chain McDonald’s recently made headlines after reportedly causing one death and a plethora of food poisoning cases across the US with links to the popular Quarter Pounder burger being the culprit, according to Al-Jazeera.
It started when E. coli (gut-related sickness) cases began occurring across 10 states, but Colorado and Nebraska were the most affected by the incident, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday.
McDonald’s US results in 1 death and food poising cases
The people who got E. coli reported eating McDonald’s Quarter Pounders before falling ill and a statement by the CDC said, "McDonald’s is collaborating with investigation partners to determine what food ingredient in Quarter Pounders is making people sick".
McDonald's later announced removing "fresh slivered onions and quarter-pound beef patties" from its menu in select states to stop the illness from spreading further.
US president of McDonald's Joe Erlinger said that other items on the menu are not affected by the issue at hand.
The fast-food chain has been under a boycott recently from pro-Palestine activists due to McDonald's having a hand in allegedly supporting Israel. Moreover, the company has also been suffering from rising inflation.
CEO Chris Kempczinski said that 2025 is looking to be another challenging year for the fast-food chain because of increased prices.
