ALBAWABA - Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom has reported concerns that Hezbollah may have deployed a drone to photograph the residence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Caesarea, a city north of Tel Aviv.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have indicated that the sighting of the drone near Netanyahu’s home could be a false alarm, though they have not entirely dismissed the possibility that Hezbollah used a drone for surveillance purposes. The IDF pointed out that radar systems sometimes detect false positives due to flocks of birds.
According to Israel Hayom, an Israeli missile ship stationed off Caesarea detected the suspected drone on Friday. Although fighter jets were dispatched to the area, they were unable to locate the drone.
The incident has sparked debate, with many analysts suggesting that Iran might respond through Hezbollah by targeting Netanyahu directly, in retaliation for the Israeli assassination operation that led to the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh.
Despite the low probability of Iran or Hezbollah attempting to assassinate Netanyahu due to the risk of triggering a regional war, the possibility remains. This is particularly true given the recent threat to Netanyahu’s residence from a suspected drone, and the fact that surveillance systems were unable to pinpoint its location.
