ALBAWABA - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan gifts pistols, specifically revolvers, to NATO leaders during Ankara summit.
According to soon-to-be-former British PM Keir Starmer during a press conference on his flight home, Erdogan gifted pistols to each NATO leader at the Ankara summit, adding that the pistols were inscribed with the name of each leader and given alongside a box of ammunition.
Starmer left his ‘gift’ in Turkey as bringing the gun to Britain would be illegal despite Erdogan lifting export controls on the weapons in a letter to his government.
The gun doubled as a farewell-gift to Starmer who has announced his resignation and will be stepping down to Andy Burnham, the latter potentially looking forward to the next NATO summit taking place in Turkey.
Alongside Starmer, a spokesperson for the German government said that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has also received a pistol, to be held at the German Embassy in Ankara until it can be legally exported to Germany.
Also, according to reports, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council António Costa received the pistol gift as well.
