ALBAWABA - After six months in Israeli imprisonment, Gaza-European Hospital Chief of Orthopedic Surgery Bessam Mikdad spoke out today. Mikdad showed horrible maltreatment and torture of Palestinian inmates of all ages and health.
"We were hopeful for release after the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement in Gaza," Mikdad told reporters, detailing his uncertainty and isolation. He described inmates being tortured for requesting inquiries.
Mikdad said that Israeli jails brutalized elderly, 16-year-olds, and severely disabled people, demonstrating the indiscriminate character of Israeli military activities. Despite worldwide outrage, confinement circumstances worsened, indicating a lack of human rights.
The release of Mikdad and 49 other Palestinians adds to regional tensions caused by military actions. Israeli officials have not addressed Mikdad's and others' claims.
Since the current wave of violence started in October, hundreds have died or been wounded in Gaza. The humanitarian crisis confronting Palestinians is exacerbated by the targeting of civilian facilities like hospitals and schools.
