ALBAWABA - If you feel depressed at the beginning of the year, don't worry; experts say it could be just the effect of Blue Monday, which follows Christmas and New Year celebrations and is associated with winter blues.
When is Blue Monday?
Blue Monday is the third Monday in January, and it is known as the "most depressing day of the year". Psychologist Cliff Arnall named Blue Monday in a 2004 marketing campaign for a travel company in the U.K., called Sky Travel, to encourage winter bookings.
Though it's a widely debunked myth with no scientific basis, often used to promote holiday bookings amidst winter blues.
On the other hand, experts confirmed that there's no real scientific evidence proving that this single Monday is gloomier than any other.

How to overcome Blue Monday?
There are several things that you may do to slow down the effect of Blue Monday and the feeling of being down:
1. Light exposure: Get outside during daylight or use a light lamp in the morning.
2. Gentle movement: Even a short walk can lift mood.
3. Sleep consistency: Regular bed and wake times matter more than long sleep.
4. Eat good food: eating a meal that you like will always enhance your mood.
5. Friends meeting: A quick message or coffee with someone can help more than isolating.
6. Reminding yourself that "this is a low-energy winter day" so you can reduce self-blame.
