ALBAWABA - Karmelo Anthony's family is the talk of social media after successfully raising more than $100,000 for their 17-year-old son's fundraiser campaign on GiveSendGo. Anthony recently confessed to murdering fellow student Austin Metcalf by fatally stabbing him.
While his parents initially requested $100,000, internet users quickly noticed that the cap was raised further to $150,000, raising questions across social media. The campaign aims to aid Karmelo Anthony's legal defense.
Additionally, the GiveSendGo campaign was recently raised to $200,000 after garnering more than $140,000.
$140K raised for Karmelo Anthony, Austin Metcalf's killer
Karmelo Anthony's parents wrote in the fundraiser's description, "The narrative being spread is false, unjust, and harmful. As a family of faith, we are deeply grateful for all of your support during this trying period. Your prayers and assistance mean more to us now more than ever."
The 17-year-old was accused of murder after fatally stabbing Austin Metcalf at a track meet on April 2 in Frisco, Texas. Anthony's attorney claims that he stabbed Metcalf in self-defense, hence the fundraiser currently being raised to defend the 17-year-old legally.
According to a police report, Anothony said, "I was protecting myself" after being approached by one of the school's resource officers who entered the murder scene's premises.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred at a tent in Centennial High School when a heated argument erupted between the two teens, resulting in Metcalf getting stabbed. Austin Metcalf told Anthony to move away from the tent while it was raining, which prompted him to warn Metcalf and say, "Touch me and see what happens" while reaching for his bag.
Karmelo Anthony then stabbed Austin Metcalf with a black knife and ran off.
Metcalf's father is also raising a fundraiser on GoFundMe for his son, garnering more than $250,000 out of $270,000 by the time of reporting.
The father initially wrote in the fundraiser's description, "I am Jeff Metcalf. My son, Austin Metcalf, was tragically stabbed today at a school track meet. They were not able to save him. He was a bright young man with a great future ahead of him. He was a leader of men. His smile would light up the room. His passion for football was unbelievable."
