"Israel cannot agree to the implementation of the right of return, as this would be suicide," Meretz party head MK Yossi Sarid in comment on the US proposal for a settlement of the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, reported The Jerusalem Post Monday.

Sarid said earlier in the day that Israel should take up the US offer for a settlement of the current conflict, the paper added, however, Israel needed to make a number of “crucial changes” in the “final document.”

International recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital would be superior a "virtual sovereignty" on the Temple Mount, the paper quoted Sarid as saying in an Interview with Israel radio.

Palestinians and Israeli have swapped accusations of being the responsible for the collapse of peace.

The international community, however, has blamed Israel for its excessive use of violence to curb the Palestinian Intifada. The Palestinians slam the Israeli violence as “uncalled for,” and underline as an obstacle to peace.

The Intifada has so far claimed the lives of what is believed to be more then 350 Palestinians at lease 200 of whom were teenagers under the age of 18 – Albawaba.com
