Yemeni Parliament Speaker Abdullah Hussein al-Ahmar arrived in Damascus Sunday for talks ahead of an upcoming extraordinary meeting in Baghdad of Arab parliament members opposed to US plans to strike Iraq.
Ahmar was received at Damascus airport by his Syrian counterpart Abdel Qader Qaddura, the official news agency SANA reported.
Ahmar told SANA that the September 3-4 extraordinary meeting in the Iraqi capital of the Damascus-based Arab Parliamentary Union (APU) was meant "to discuss ways to counter the threats faced by Iraq and the possible aggression against (Iraq), its people and territory."
Ahmar said the gathering was also meant to review "the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces against our Arab Palestinian people and all the dangerous challenges facing our Arab nation." (Albawaba.com)
