During an exclusive interview with a Gulf daily, Yemen’s Minister of State for Human Rights Affairs, the country’s first female minister, Dr. Waheeba Fare'e in Yemen Saturday said that Sanaa had plans to strengthen public awareness of human rights and ensure their strict implementation.
The female Minister told Gulf News about the significant role played by women in Yemen in developing the country throughout history and the role they ought to play to enrich national development.
On the status of Yemeni women today, the Minister said, “Yemen has now a multi party system and an election system that gives women the right to vote. Women are also participating in all fields, including education, politics, and decision-making”, but, she added, “…that has to be expanded to include more women from all parties and trends”.
In addition, the Minister criticized the Human Rights Report issued lately by the United States, for ignoring the, "so many positive indicators" of respecting human rights in Yemen.
She also tackled the issue of children's labor, women in jails, violence against women, in addition to other issues related to human rights. (Albawaba.com)
