XPress Telecommunications, Jordan’s exclusive provider of wireless and mobile technology, was recently granted a Digital Trunking license in Palestine similar to the license it holds in Jordan.

XPress was granted this license after placing the highest bid of US$ Three Million and one hundred thousand dollars ($3.1 million) on a Radio Trunking Tender issued by Palestinian Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology in June 2006. The tender was aimed at rewarding licenses to telecommunications firms willing to build, operate and administer a Radio Turnking System in Palestine.

This license will allow XPress to bring in updated telecommunications solutions to the Palestinian territories. The operation of the network will be initially implemented by members from the XPress team along with a specialized team from Palestine, who will also be employed and trained at XPress’s headquarters in Amman.

When asked to comment on this new business deal, Chairman of XPress Telecommunications Mr. Tarek Al Aggad said, “It is a great pleasure for us at XPress to be expanding our operations. We look forward to entering the dynamic arena offered by the Palestinian telecommunications sector which is a natural extension to the Jordanian market given the strong relationship between the two populations.
The solutions we are planning to offer will help promote and support the fulfillment of the social and economic aspirations of the people and Government of Palestine. I am sure that the new step we are taking will contribute significantly to the continued economic growth of the country. ”

“Our company offers innovative, cutting edge wireless communication solutions all combined in one state-of-the-art handset. Through the unique Direct Connect service, subscribers are able to communicate through one-to-one or one-to-many calls with a push of a single button, similar to the currently used “Walkie-Talkie” systems. XPress service also offers the services of ordinary mobile phones, such as telephone connectivity, SMS, and Data, thus enabling subscribers to communicate with fixed, mobile or international phone lines as well as roaming services and many more. This unique combination will ease the speed and efficiency of communications amongst individual and corporate sectors in the country. By providing efficient cost effective means of communication, we will be playing a pivotal role in driving business efficiency and bringing productivity to new levels. I am very optimistic when I think of what we will achieve in the Palestinian market, and I am proud of the giant strides that XPress has made since its launching date in 2004”. Mr. Aggad adds.

Also speaking with great enthusiasm and optimism about XPress’s achievements and long term vision, Mr. Nayef Alnadi, CEO of XPress International said, “Since its launching date in 2004, XPress telecommunications has enhanced the Jordanian telecommunication sector with its services. For example, the International Push-to-Talk (iPTT) service has a tremendous value for our customers in the region. XPress also offers its subscribers Wireless Application Protocol services (WAP) through its XPlore service bringing to them the most comprehensive directory of Jordanian sites in Arabic and English. It offers these services along with its standard Push To Talk, Global Positioning service XGPS, and cellular services, and I am sure we will be offering these services and more to the Palestinian community as well”.

Moreover, ”Besides satisfying the country’s need for new communications solutions, XPress will also contribute to the transfer of technical know how to Palestine, provide several local job opportunities in various sectors, and contribute to the national treasury by providing financial returns to the government from sharing in earnings, taxes and other fees”, Alnadi concluded.
