A new manual in Arabic published by the Moroccan El Amane Association for Development of Women in Society has sparked a debate in the Moroccan press. The manual was launched at an 'open-door' day of discussions on the subject of development issues for women in Marrakech and is entitled "let's be realistic about human rights: an agenda for educating about female human rights in Morocco."
The manual is 420 pages long and is the result of a collaboration between the El Amane Association and the international NGO, Global Rights as well as some other Moroccan human rights organizations.
The El Amane initiative is part of a wider range of parallel initiatives to fight illiteracy and introduce more democratic principles into the many disadvantaged areas of Morocco. Other organizations active in this area include El Hajeb and Amna (to help women against violence). The manual will be available in Algeria and Tunisia as well. (albawaba.com)
