West Bank: Two Israeli soldiers wounded in shooting attack

Palestinian fire wounded two Israeli soldiers in an ambush near the Tomb of the Patriarchs early Monday in the West Bank city of Hebron.

The Palestinians fired at a group of Israeli soldiers standing near the shrine. One of the wounded Israelis was in a very serious condition. The injuries of the other were described as light.

The attack comes as Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz was planning to meet with PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas to arrange the transfer of Palestinian cities, Israeli officials said Sunday.

According to these officials, Mofaz will also pressure Abbas to take offensive action against armed Palestinian groups, including disarming and dismantling them. Mofaz is also expected to discuss improving security coordination between Israel and the Palestinians.
