Dr. Elias Zerhouni, the director of the National Institutes of Health in the USA (NIH) has affirmed that the American Government wishes to reinforce cooperation with the Maghreb countries in the field of medical research. Dr. Elias explained that last year only 36 researchers from North Africa and all over the Middle East have been given the opportunity to carry out researches in NIH. This number, reports Le Matin, constituted just 5% of the total number of 2,700 scientists from around the world, who have received burses for research in the USA.
