US soldier killed, three wounded as clashes reported in Baghdad

A U.S. soldier died of injuries sustained when a roadside bomb hit his patrol in Baghdad, the U.S. military said Sunday. Three other U.S. troops were lightly wounded in the same attack.  The attack occurred about 10 a.m. Saturday in the northern part of Iraq's capital, the military said in a statement, cited by the AP.


Also Sunday, resistance fighters fired mortars and rocket-propelled grenades at Iraqi security forces in downtown Baghdad, while a suicide car bomber attacked a U.S. military convoy in Anbar province, the military said. No were reported.


Also Sunday, four decapitated men in civilian clothes were located south of Baghdad, police and hospital official said.

 


In another incident, the U.S. army said Iraqi National Guard troops attacked in central Baghdad with mortar and rocket-propelled grenade fire at about 7:30 a.m. Al-Jazeera reported that clashes occurred in Baghdad's Haifa Street.

 

In northern Iraq, a car bomb on Sunday rocked Arbil, eyewitnesses said, wounding two people.
