US Secretary of State receives Tunisian foreign minister for talks in Washington

US Secretary of State Colin Powell and Tunisian Foreign Minister Habib Bin Yahia met on Tuesday for talks on  

a wide range of issues. 

 

Powell and Bin Yahia, who is currently in Washington preparing for a February visit to the White House by Tunisian President Zine al- Abidine Bin Ali,  

sought to boost the "strategic dialogue" and military cooperation between both countries, Powell said. 

 

The two leaders discussed North African affairs, including the prospects for a settlement in Western Sahara and the recent decision by Libya to abandon its nuclear weapons program.  

 

In addition, Powell and Bin Yahia discussed the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, with Powell stating that he hopes "in this new year we can find ways to move forward on the roadmap" to a lasting settlement. (Albawaba.com)
