ALBAWABA - During the United States' operation to capture Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, at least 40 people have died, a report by the New York Times revealed.

At least 40 people, including civilians and soldiers, were killed during U.S. strikes in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, a Venezuelan official told the New York Times on Saturday night

The official said, "At least 40 people, including civilians and soldiers, were killed in the attack."

US officials also revealed that Washington's operation in Venezuela was conducted using "more than 150 US aircraft to knock out air defenses, so military helicopters could deliver troops who assaulted Mr Maduro's position".

American special forces captured Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife early Saturday and transported them to New York City, where the leftist president would stand on trial on charges of drug and weapons offences, according to President Donald Trump.

Trump also added that the U.S. would run Venezuela until a "safe, proper, and judicious transition" is secured.
