ALBAWABA - The US Embassy in Muscat, Oman released a security alert for its citizens and canceled visa appointments after a violent shooting near a mosque during a religious event.
"Due to the potential for terrorist attacks, demonstrations, or violent actions against U.S. citizens and interests, the Department of State advises U.S. citizens overseas to exercise increased caution," the security alert reads.
"US citizens should remain vigilant, monitor local news, and heed directions of local authorities," the embassy wrote on X.
The Omani released a statement regarding the incident: "The Omani Police have responded to a huge shooting incident in the vicinity of a mosque in Al-Wadi Al-Kabeer region".
"The authorities are continuing to gather evidence and conduct investigations to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident," the police said in a post on X.
