United States Ambassador to Tel Aviv Dan Kurtzer has protested to Israel over the Monday attack on the office of a Palestinian leader, in which he was killed and two American citizens living in the same building were wounded, reported Haaretz.
But it was not the assassination of the leader that concerned the US.
According to the paper, three families holding American citizenship were in the building that also housed Abu Ali Mustapha's offices when he was killed. Two of the four people lightly wounded in the attack were children with American citizenship.
"We pay our taxes in the US and this money is used to give the Israelis weapons, which they have used to attack my home," said Rhada Daes, a mother of four, who was born in New York and moved to Ramallah three years ago with her family.
According to the paper, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s office said in response that the organizers of the operation had been unaware of the fact that there were American citizens in the building, and that the attack would not have taken place had they known.
Abu Ali Mustapha, who was killed in the attack, was the secretary general of one of the Palestine Liberation Organization's main parties, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – Albawaba.com
