The United States Navy has ruled out any inspections of cargo ships arriving or leaving Jordan's southern port of Aqaba in search of UN-banned Iraqi goods, Al-Rai daily said Monday.

"There are no signs that the Multinational Interception Forces will reinstate the inspection system on ships entering or leaving the port of Aqaba," the newspaper said, quoting a Bahrain-based navy official.

"There are no signs that smuggled goods have passed through the port," the statement said in reference to Iraqi goods banned under United Nations Security Council resolutions, namely oil. However, the official, identified as Allan Moore from the US navy liaison office in Bahrain, said in reply to questions from Al-Rai that US and international forces reserve the right to enforce UN resolutions if they are violated.
