ALBAWABA - Just hours after Nicolas Maduro's Vice President Delcy Rodriguez was sworn in as interim president on Monday (local time), explosions and gunfire were heard outside Miraflores, the Venezuelan presidential palace.
Gunfire and blasts were reported near the presidential palace in Caracas, according to local media and videos that were shared on social media.
Unverified clips emerged showing armed men with heavy weapons and military convoys deployed around Miraflores Palace in the Venezuelan capital.
Other videos displayed Venezuelan security forces patrolling streets near the palace while people were seen trying to cover.
According to local media, the gunfire occurred at around 8 p.m. local time after reports of unidentified drones roaming over the palace. However, until this moment, the Venezuelan government has not made an official statement regarding damage or arrests, nor has it revealed to if there were any injuries or fatalities.
Vice President Delcy Rodriguez was announced as acting president following the detention of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, during a U.S. military operation on Jan. 3.
