ALBAWABA - Massive wildfires hit different areas in southern Chile, killing at least 19 people, Chilean authorities said on Sunday.

In addition, local media reported that 50,000 residents have been displaced as wildfires are still uncontrolled for the second day in a row. The fires are expanding in the Nuble and Biobio regions, about 500 kilometers south of Santiago.

Experts said that the wildfires are expanding fast due to the strong winds and hot weather.

Several videos and photos were posted on social media showing flames erupting throughout the country, and some displayed burned homes, trucks and cars.

Chilean Mayor Rodrigo Vera reported that most of the fatalities were in Penco.

On the other hand, in Lirquen, a town with 20,000 residents, people said they were shocked, saying the fire advanced "in seconds."
