U.N. report on Hariri murder: Syrian cooperation ”generally satisfactory”

The U.N. inquiry into the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri reported on Saturday "considerable progress" in its work.

The report by the commission led by Belgian prosecutor Serge Brammertz said Syrian cooperation, which previously had been faulted by investigators, was now "generally satisfactory," and it backed a request by the Lebanese government that the inquiry be extended an additional year, Reuters reported. "Such extension would provide a sense of continuity and stability, enables progressive operations and planning, and offers assurances to staff," the report said.
