The U.N. health agency on Friday said no less than 70,000 people have died since March from poor conditions in refugee camps in Sudan's Darfur region.

The toll does not include the number of people killed in violence.

Dr. David Nabarro, head of crisis operations for the World Health Organization, said the toll of 70,000 dead from camp conditions only covered the period since March, when aid agencies have had some access to the Darfur region. WHO is can't estimate how many people may have died from violence, he said, according to The AP. (albawaba.com)
