U.N. arms experts inspected a presidential palace in Baghdad Wednesday. An Iraqi information ministry official confirmed UN inspectors "went to a sensitive site".
The inspectors visited the palace in the al-Karadah district that is known popularly as the Old Palace. It was built after the fall of the Iraqi monarchy in 1958. It was twice bombed during 1991 Gulf war and subsequently repaired.
Inspectors visited the al-Sajoud palace in Baghdad last mont.
Meanwhile, Russia said Wednesday it would send a Foreign Ministry expert to Baghdad. Russia's Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Saltanov, Russia's leading Iraq expert, would lead "consultations with the Iraqi side."
"He will present our views and consider possible steps to ensure a political and diplomatic solution to the Iraqi problem," ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko said in a statement. (Albawaba.com)
