The return to Kuwait of national archives looted by Iraq during its occupation of the emirate will begin "within a few weeks", a United Nations envoy said in the capital of Baghdad on Wednesday.

"I am meeting with Iraqi officials regarding the return of Kuwaiti documentation, primarily the national archives and also documents from other ministries," Canadian Richard Foran told reporters following talks with Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri, AFP said.

"I don't foresee any difficulties ... I expect that the operation will commence within a few weeks," said Foran, a representative of UN Secretary General Kofi Annan who arrived in Baghdad on Tuesday and who is scheduled to travel on to Kuwait in a couple of days.

"The Iraqi officials have been extremely helpful this morning, and they indicated that they will cooperate in every possible way, and I am hopeful that we will have the same cooperation from the Kuwaiti side." (Albawaba.com)
