United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan is expected to meet Tuesday his Special Adviser on Cyprus, Alvaro de Soto, CNA news agency reported Monday.

Fred Eckhard, Spokesman for the Secretary-General said in New York Monday that de Soto, who is currently in NY paid a "social and private" to Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash, recovering from open heart surgery.

De Soto was to meet Denktash’s adviser, Ergun Olgun on Monday and was to confer with State Department Special Coordinator for Cyprus, Thomas Weston and British Envoy for Cyprus, Lord David Hannay.

De Soto's meetings are taking place amid mounting speculation that the UN Chief may decide to put forward a plan for a solution to the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot sides, which have been engaged in direct talks since January. (Albawaba.com)
