ALBAWABA - Ukraine's military attacked Russia's biggest oil terminal in St. Petersburg just hours before the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

A video was posted on social media showing fire and smoke erupting from the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal following a strike by Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Wednesday that his army struck key Russian facilities in overnight attacks, in addition to the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal.

The facility is located about 1,100 kilometers from Ukraine's border, Zelenskyy said on US social media platform X, highlighting Kyiv’s long-range missiles.

The president further mentioned that Ukrainian forces also struck military targets at Kronstadt base in Russia.

A weapons-production enterprise in Russia's Tambov region, nearly 600 kilometers from the front line, was also targeted, Zelenskyy noted.

On the other hand, St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov posted on Telegram that infrastructure facilities in the Kronstadt, Kirovsky and Krasnoselsky districts were hit by Ukrainian drones early in the morning.

Beglov said several facilities were damaged, but with no further details.

"Cleanup efforts are currently underway. Several people were injured. There were no fatalities," he wrote.

The incident came ahead of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which is scheduled to be held from June 3 to June 6. The forum is expected to attract 20,000 participants from 100 countries.
