The UAE’s Red Crescent Society (RCS) has announced that it will dispatch two planeloads of aid to Palestine this week, carrying 80 tons of relief goods as part of its campaign to assist the Palestinian people.
According to the official UAE news agency (WAM), the first aircraft, which is scheduled to leave Saturday, will be loaded with 40 tons of food and medical items worth Dh1.4 million.
A second plane from the Sharjah Charity Society will airlift 40 tons of relief goods worth Dh800,000 on Sunday, said the agency.
Meanwhile, the RCS has received a donation of Dh1 million from UAE businessman Saeed Al Nabouda in support of the RCS' Afghan Relief Fund.
Khalifa Al Nabouda offered Dh1 million in support of the Palestinian relief campaign.
On Sunday, the RCS received a donation of Dh2 million from the Al Fuhaim Group.
The donation, which was divided into two halves, came to support the RCS charity campaigns in Afghanistan and Palestine.
A senior official at the RCS has said that the committee will spend Dh3.1 million on its humanitarian operations during the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
Saleh Al Mulla, assistant secretary general for external affairs, said that this budget allocation would be used abroad to assist poor Muslim families during Ramadan, offering them iftar, or fast-breaking meals, and Eid clothing.
He said the overseas operations, which will cover 25 countries, would also include distributing zakat, or alms, to those needy Muslims – Albawaba.com
