UAE is preparing a series of laws that will address the entire range of cyber issues, said officials attending the opening of Abtec 2001, the first Arab e-Banking and e-Security Summit in Dubai.
“The cyber law being prepared by Dubai Internet City (DIC) is on schedule for an early June launch,” DIC chief executive, Ahmad bin Byat, told the Gulf News after delivering the keynote address at the conference. "The new law will address issues of e-security, signature, authentication and confidentiality of information," he said.
Forty-two percent of UAE companies plan to set up e-commerce operations by year-end, and 88 percent already have Internet access, he told the paper.
"But how many take the security threat seriously and have armed themselves against security risks?"
Chief of Dubai police, Maj. Gen. Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, said the draft of a cyber-crime law is in the final stages of preparation by the UAE Ministry of Planning. "It will likely be issued in six months," he said.
“The incidence of cyber-crime in Dubai is very low,” he said, yet there is an e-legislation vacuum.
