UAE proposed on Sunday high-level discussions with Pakistan to streamline labor procedures and eliminate problems faced by Pakistani workers in the Gulf state, reported the Gulf News.
The suggestion was made by Emirati minister of labor Matar Humaid Al Tayer, during a meeting with his Pakistani couterpart, Omar Asghar Khan, who arrived in Abu Dhabi Sunday.
A Pakistani embassy official told the paper the two ministers discussed ways of enhancing cooperation between Pakistan and the UAE in manpower recruiting.
The Pakistani minister was quoted as saying that Islamabad has been developing a package of social benefits for Pakistanis abroad.
"My visit is basically aimed at collecting feedback from Pakistanis that will help us in giving a right shape to the package," the official quoted him as saying.
The package will be discussed in detail at a meeting headed by Chief Executive of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf, in Islamabad on April 13, he added.
"We have lined up a number of things for overseas Pakistanis and hope that they will appreciate them."
The Pakistani government has stepped up efforts to export skilled manpower to achieve a target of $1 billion in remittances during this fiscal year, said the paper.
This year, remittances have increased by 20 percent, Khan was quoted as saying.
