The Emirati Gulf News daily said on Friday its online edition had been hacked by “Zionist activists believed to be based in Israel.”

The Gulf News believes that “it attracted this attention due to its extensive coverage of the atrocities by the Israeli government in Palestine and the West Bank,” according to a notice published on its website.

A front-page Gulf News report said Friday the hackers had used sophisticated technology to break into its www.gulfnews.com website, which is hosted on a US-based portal, according to the Gulf Daily News.

Experts had traced the source of the attack back through several US sites to computers linked to an Israeli Internet provider, said the notice.

The Gulf Daily News said the newspaper closed the site on Thursday after it found out the hackers had superimposed on it an Israeli flag and the words “You have been hacked... Long Live Israel.” – Albawaba.com
