UAE National Fahad Al Qahtani won the Middle East District Toastmasters International public speaking contest held recently in Amman, Jordan.
Qahtani, a member of the Air BP-sponsored Dubai Men’s College (DMC) Toastmasters Chapter, won the ‘Table Topics’ prize beating eight speakers from across the GCC and Jordan.
In the Table Topics contest, competitors are given a topic, which can be on any subject, and only have a few seconds to compose their thoughts before delivering a two-minute improvised speech. The competitions reached the Middle East district contest after wining several elimination rounds.
“Qahtani’s win is a fantastic achievement as he has only been a member of Toastmasters for the past four months. It is also a great achievement for the DMC chapter which has progressed rapidly since it was formed last January,” said Giri Iyengar, Regional Marketing Manager, Air BP.
Toastmasters International is a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping its members improve their communication and leadership skills through mutually supportive activities, such as public speaking contests. It has more than 195,000 members in over 80 countries.
It was announced in Jordan that the 2006 event will be held in Dubai.
