Lab tests carried out by Abu Dhabi Municipality's Food and Environment Control Center (FECC) on samples of banned Spanish olive oil showed no trace of the carcinogenic substance alpha benzopyrene, reported the Khaleej Times, citing a health top official.

Hassan Marei Al Kathiri, the head of laboratories and specifications at the center, told the paper that their inspection teams collected 150 samples of 20 brands of Spanish olive oil from local markets, mainly of the first three grades. The samples were collected randomly with different manufacturing dates and weights, but no trace of the chemical, was found.

He said that the contaminated oil spotlighted by the Spanish Health Ministry was not available on the local market. However, he added that a ban announced last week was still valid pending further investigation - Albawaba.com
