UAE’s Etisalat Launches EWAP Service

Emirates Telecommunications Corporation, Etisalat, the UAE telecom services provider, announced Wednesday the launch of its Wireless Application Protocol- EWAP Service. Subscribers to the service can now access local and international interactive information all from the convenience of their WAP enabled GSM handsets, Etisalat said in a statement, cited by official news agency (WAM) 

The service, essentially a technology, enables people on the move to access text based information, applications and services anytime, anywhere, the statement said. Subscribers to EWAP can check their e-mail, latest news, sports scores, airline schedules and stock quotes. They can access the UAE's White and Yellow page telephone directories, find out which movies are playing in the cinemas and check and pay their traffic fines (Dubai Police), all from the convenience and privacy of the WAP enabled handsets.  

They can also access all the WAP sites on the Internet. Mohammed Al Fuheim, Deputy Chairman and Executive Director, Marketing, Etisalat, was quoted in the statement as saying the launch of EWAP “is part of the overall strategic plan of the corporation to provide our customers with the very best in technologically advanced services in the wireless segment of our business.” – Albawaba.com
