A roadside bomb went off near a U.S. military convoy on Monday, killing two troops and an Iraqi translator, the military said. Two other soldiers from the 1st Armored Division were injured in the attack at about 11:45 a.m. in Baghdad, the military said.

Elsewhere, a former Iraqi general was arrested in the town of Baqouba on Sunday night on suspicion of directing attacks against US forces. More than 30 soldiers took part in the raid which also netted a rifle, a pistol and ammunition.

Meanwhile, Poland's president has paid a surprise visit to Iraq, becoming the third "coalition" leader in the past month to do so. According to the AP, President Aleksander Kwasniewski arrived for his unannounced visit Monday. He and Poland's defense minister have spent time meeting with Polish troops at their Iraqi headquarters.

Polish state radio reported Kwasniewski planned to stay for two or three hours. (Albawaba.com)
