Two Palestinians Killed, 14 Wounded During Incursions into Ramallah, Gaza

Two Palestinians were killed and 14 others were injured during Israeli attacks on Ramallah in the West Bank and Beit Hanoun in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian medical sources said Saturday. 

Israeli forces backed up by tanks moved early Saturday into the Palestinian autonomous sector of Ramallah in the West Bank, wounding three Palestinians, Palestinian security sources said. 

The Palestinians were wounded in fierce exchanges of fire between the Israelis and security services controlling roads into the town, the sources told the official Palestinian news agency, WAFA. 

Two Israeli soldiers were also wounded after moving in on the main Jerusalem-Ramallah road from the south, Palestinian sources said. 

At 4:45 am (0145 GMT) the Israeli forces were near the Voice of Palestine radio and television buildings, southwest of Ramallah, the sources said. 

But the Israeli army denied it had entered Palestinian-controlled territory near the West Bank town of Ramallah, said Haaretz newspaper.  

It claimed that Palestinian gunmen opened fire on Israeli soldiers south of Ramallah and near the settlement of Psagot, also located in the West Bank.  

It also said that there were no injuries reported among Israeli troops. 

In Gaza, an Israeli force including tanks, APCs and bulldozers thrust into the northern town of Beit Hanoun late Friday night and blew up Palestinian security installations.  

Palestinian sources that in the ensuing gunfight, two Palestinians were killed, and 11 were injured.  

Earlier, the Palestinians reported that a 17-year-old boy who was throwing stones at Israeli army troops was shot dead.  

The army claimed the teenager had aimed a Kalashnikov assault rifle at the soldiers.  

Haaretz said also that two members of the Israeli border police were wounded Friday afternoon in an attack at the Erez checkpoint in the northern Gaza Strip. One suffered moderate-to-serious wounds and the second light injuries when grenades were thrown at the checkpoint.  

Israel Radio reported that a bomb exploded alongside occupation troops near Nablus next to the Jewish settlement of Elon Moreh.  

There were no injuries, said the report. 

Since the latest Palestinian uprising against 34 years of military occupation erupted in late 2000, Israeli forces have killed 617 Palestinians, according to AFP estimates. In the same period, resistance fighters have killed nearly 165 Israelis, accordng to the agency – Albawaba.com
