Two suspects in last year's Jakarta stock exchange bombing which left 10 dead attempted to break out of jail on Friday, but only one got away, police said.
It was the third jail break related to suspects of the bourse bombing.
"One got away but another was caught in time," an officer at the East Jakarta police detective's unit said.
He indentified the recaptured suspect only as Irwan, the other as Nuryadin, and declined to give further details.
SCTV television quoted Irwan as telling police that the two had obtained a gun and two grenades from Lance Corporal Ibrahim Hasan, another suspect in the bombing case who had escaped on July 16.
The grenades and the handgun were thrown over the high outer wall of the jail, he said.
The television report said that the two had attempted to leave the jail using fake visitor passes, but when these were discovered they threw the grenades and fled during the ensuing confusion.
The pins in the grenades were intact and did not explode.
Police, who were immediately alerted, tried to pursue Nuryadin but he stole a motorcyle at gunpoint and got away.
The head of the jail and the Jakarta police spokesman could not be reached for comment.
On June 16, Hasan, 31, of the Kostrad army strategic reserve unit, who was on trial for his alleged part in the September 1999 bombing, escaped while a car transporting him to the hospital sustained a flat tyre.
Hasan, who had been complaining of intense stomach pains, had not been handcuffed because he was clutching his stomach, police have said.
Hasan's escape led to the suspension of Jakarta's military police chief, who was held responsible for the incident.
Colonel Joestiono (eds: one name) was relieved of his post as head of the Jakarta military police command, the day after the escape.
Another of the nine suspects in the bourse blast, Ibrahim Abdul Wahab, 40, escaped from his cell at the Cipinang state jail by climbing the wall with a rope thrown to a tree outside of the high prison walls in February -- JAKARTA (AFP)
