The film "Turtles Can Fly" won the Hassan II Prize in the 11th international film festival in Rabat, which is to end August 2. The Kurdish-Iraqi-Iranian 95-minute production was directed, written and produced by Iranian director, Bahman Ghobadi, who was born in Kurdistan, and chose non-actor children to perform in his film.
The film describes Kurdish refugees' obsession with acquiring a satellite dish to keep abreast of American plans towards Iraq ahead of the war to oust Saddam Hussein. The movie has already been screened in 38 countries, including France, Spain, the United States, Turkey, and Iraq.
