Turkish Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit is expected to leave hospital in Ankara at the beginning of the week after suffering from a cracked rib and a vascular condition in a leg, his doctor said Saturday, quoted by Anatolia news agency.

Ecevit, who will be 77 years old on Tuesday, has been in hospital since May 16 after undergoing treatment for an intestinal infection 12 days earlier.

"He should get out at the start of the week," his spokesman Cem Avci quoted Dr. Mehmet Haberal of Ankara's Baskent hospital as saying, AFP reported.

Ecevit took two 10-minute walks in hospital corridors Friday and again Saturday and underwent routine tests, Avci said.

His spokesman did not say whether he would be convalescing at home or whether he would be able to return to his office. (Albawaba.com)
