Turkey’s Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit said Sunday he would rest for two or three more weeks at home to nurse a vertebral injury, however made clear he had no intentions of stepping down.

"I have been closely engaged in the duties of the premiership and will continue to do so," Ecevit told reporters in a news conference in the garden of his office.

It was the premier’s first public appearance in over a week.
