Turkey's Prime Minister confronted increasing calls for his resignation Saturday, insisting he was in good shape and would remain at the head of the Turkish government.

Bulent Ecevit, who was hospitalized twice in the month of May, missed a key meeting with top generals last week, fueling demands from the opposition and media, and even some members of the coalition government, that he should step down.

However, according to the Saudi Press Agency, in a written statement Saturday, the Turkish premier said he was recovering and remained in charge. "My condition is good, I'm not in pain," Ecevit made clear.

"I am continuing to rest as the doctors advise, but I am continuing to work as my position requires ... I'm at my post", he added. (Albawaba.com)
