In Turkey, security forces killed one rebel of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in fighting in the eastern part of the country that left five soldiers and a civilian injured, officials and local sources said Monday.
The rebel was killed during an exchange of gunfire between Turkish forces and PKK rebels during a security operation in a rural part of the eastern province of Tunceli, the office of the emergency rule governor in Diyarbakir said in a statement.
A hunter, who along with three friends wandered into the area, was also wounded, the governor of the province, Tuncel Erkal, told Anatolia news agency. He was then flown to a nearby hospital for medical treatment and his friends were taken into custody.
Meanwhile, local sources, requesting anonymity, said five members of the Turkish security forces were wounded during a second operation when Kurdish rebels fired at them near the town of Nazimiye, also in Tunceli province. (Albawaba.com)
